Global Vision International

Global Vision International (GVI) was formed in 1998 to provide support and services to international charities, non-profits and governmental agencies, through volunteering opportunities and direct funding. GVI is guided by a unique commitment to its volunteers and to its partners. To the volunteer it offers a safe responsible travel experiences, exceptional training and career development opportunities, and facilitates the ability to make a real difference. To its partners it commits all research ownership rights and all work is undertaken fully under their direction, in conjunction with the local community. GVI is a non-political, non-religious organization, which through its alliance with over 150 project partners in over 40 countries, provides opportunities to over 2000 volunteers a year to fill a critical void in the fields of environmental research, conservation, education and community development. International partners include the South African National Parks Board, Diane Fossey Gorilla Fund, Jane Goodall Institute, Rainforest Concern and Kenyan Wildlife Service. Since conception, 70% of all volunteer contributions received have been spent directly in field.

GVI Amazon, Ecuador began working with the Yachana Foundation in January 2006, with one of the main aims of compiling a species list for the Yachana Reserve.  During their time in the reserve, GVI has continued to develop this species list and alongside this ongoing work, there have been a number of different projects looking into a variety of the species found, including among others, bats, butterflies, birds, dung beetles and amphibians.  GVI’s rainforest conservation and community development expedition offers volunteers the opportunity to participate in and get hands on experience of conducting research and scientific investigation work, which supports wildlife conservation and the protection of the Yachana Reserve.

Another key aspect to the GVI program is working closely with the local communities and collaborating with community projects, including facilitating the learning of English as a foreign language, as well as mingas and inter-cambio exchanges with the students from the Yachana Technical High School.
