Mission & Vision

First year students

Yachana Foundation's mission is to continue to achieve sustainability through education and conservation. Every organizational initiative and decision we make are based on this goal.

Our vision as a world leader in Geotourism is to create ongoing community development and economic opportunities, to provide training and education that inspires and transforms individuals into leaders and efficient  administrators of natural resources, and to give viable economic and sustainable alternatives to the people who call the Amazon Rainforest their home.

In order to accomplish our goals, we have developed an interesting organizational structure comprised of a  non-profit organization that owns for-profit companies.  This "hybrid" business model is designed to help  achieve financial auto-sufficiency and create opportunities for the students participating in our educational programs so that they have places to practice what they are learning while working as student interns.

As a fully-licensed tour operator, Yachana provides a platform for looking into the lives of the people  living in the Amazon region of Ecuador, which raises awareness and provides opportunities to bring solutions to the  unique set of challenges facing the region.  Any income that the Foundation receives from Yachana Lodge and Center for Geotourism Training, Yachana Tours and the sale of our products through Yachana Technology is  reinvested in the Foundation to help cover the costs associated with our educational programs in addition to the  conservation of the Yachana Reserve comprised of 1,800 hectares of protected rainforest.

In the very near future we will open the Yachana Technical Training Center that will provide higher education for graduates from our high school program along with other students from the region.  The training center will also be a place to showcase the latest in clean energy technology, "green" building and other sustainability initiatives - the perfect place to welcome students and other visitors from around the world interested in seeing sustainable, environmentally-friendly solutions "in action."
